Abstract
Banking sectoristhebackboneofanycountry'seconomyandbankdepositsarethemajortoolofsuccessforbankingsector.
Bank depositsarealsoamajorpartanddeterminantofcountry'ssaving.Accordingtoeconomictheoriesandpractical
considerations, interestrateisconsideredoneofthemajorelementsthatcanaffectsavingsaswellasbankdeposits.Butaswe
knows thatinIslaminterestisconsideredforbiddenandMuslimstriestoavoidinterestincome,Sothebasicpurposeofthisstudy
is toknowthefactthateitherreligiousfactorshaveanyeffectonMuslim'sdecisionwhilekeepingtheirsavinginbanks.Weused
panel ARDL(AutoregressiveDistributedLag)methodbyusing23non-Islamicand23Islamiccountriesdatafrom1999to2014
for thisstudy.ResultsshowedthatinIslamiccountriesinterestratedon’t haveanyimpactonbankdepositsbothinlongrunand
short run.Butinthecaseofnon-Islamiccountriesinterestratehavepositivesignificant impactonbankdeposits.Hencethereis
need ofIslamicbanksincountrieswithmoreMuslimpopulationandthereshouldbedifferenteconomicpoliciesforIslamic
countries asreligiousfactoraffectsdecisionofMuslimsandinterestratedoesn’t haveanyimpactonbank'sdeposits.
