Abstract

Banking sectoristhebackboneofanycountry'seconomyandbankdepositsarethemajortoolofsuccessforbankingsector. Bank depositsarealsoamajorpartanddeterminantofcountry'ssaving.Accordingtoeconomictheoriesandpractical considerations, interestrateisconsideredoneofthemajorelementsthatcanaffectsavingsaswellasbankdeposits.Butaswe knows thatinIslaminterestisconsideredforbiddenandMuslimstriestoavoidinterestincome,Sothebasicpurposeofthisstudy is toknowthefactthateitherreligiousfactorshaveanyeffectonMuslim'sdecisionwhilekeepingtheirsavinginbanks.Weused panel ARDL(AutoregressiveDistributedLag)methodbyusing23non-Islamicand23Islamiccountriesdatafrom1999to2014 for thisstudy.ResultsshowedthatinIslamiccountriesinterestratedon’t haveanyimpactonbankdepositsbothinlongrunand short run.Butinthecaseofnon-Islamiccountriesinterestratehavepositivesignificant impactonbankdeposits.Hencethereis need ofIslamicbanksincountrieswithmoreMuslimpopulationandthereshouldbedifferenteconomicpoliciesforIslamic countries asreligiousfactoraffectsdecisionofMuslimsandinterestratedoesn’t haveanyimpactonbank'sdeposits. & 2017 FacultyofCommerceandBusinessAdministration,FutureUniversity.ProductionandHostingbyElsevierB.V.Thisisan open accessarticleundertheCCBY-NC-NDlicense(http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/).
