Abstract

There are xenophobic attacks against immigrant entrepreneurs in South Africa. These attacks are founded on perception that the business practices of immigrant entrepreneurs are different from those of native entrepreneurs. The primary objective of the study was to investigate if there are significant differences in the business practices and work ethics of native and immigrant entrepreneurs. The study examined the marketing practice, purchasing practice and work ethics of native and immigrant entrepreneurs. The study used the quantitative research method with a descriptive research design. Data was collected through the use of self-administered questionnaire in a survey. The participants in the study were both native and immigrant entrepreneurs. Convenience and snowball sampling technique were used to obtain a sample of native and immigrant entrepreneurs. Data analysis included descriptive statistics and the independent samples T-test. The results indicated that there are no significant differences in the business practices and work ethics of native and immigrant entrepreneurs.
